La Feria de Estepona !

Throughout the year, all over Spain, the Ferias pop up to bring communities together and provide a fun and engaging environment for children and adults alike. If you have ever been to the Feria you will know what a spectacular and hectic event it can be, only lasting 6 days but providing months (or even years) of memories. If you are new to the Coast or you simply have not been to a Feria before it may seem daunting, however, we have found the Feria has a little something for everyone, and want to encourage everyone to attend and experience all that it has to offer.

Because of this, we have decided to create your guide to the Feria. Just in time for you to head towards Estepona this weekend ad join in on the fun!

What is La Feria?

The direct translation to English is ‘Fair’. The Spanish fairs are 6 day long events which move across the country throughout the year. We have many along the Costa del Sol, some of which you may be familiar with. The key ones to look out for are Marbella, San Pedro and Estepona Ferias (Sevilla also has a huge Feria if you don’t mind travelling a little for it). From bulls, to singers to dancers what more could you want from a traditional Spanish festival?

Entry to the Feria

Every Feria will have a large colourful archway which you walk through to reveal the many casetas (or tents) which are serving cheap food and drinks. Behind these casetas you will find roller coaster rides, spinning teacups, bumper cars and mini games!

Don’t shy away from the casetas as they have dance floors, tables and excellent Spanish cuisine. Make sure you feed and ‘water’ yourselves before heading to the rides! Anyone can enter the casetas at absolutely cost and enjoy all they have to offer. However, if you do find yourself heading to the Feria in Sevilla, it is a different story. A lot of their casetas are privately owned and have restricted access. We recommend that if you do intend to go to the Feria in Sevilla it is a good idea to go with a friend who will be able to grant you access to the casetas.

Dress

The Ferias in Spain follow some traditions… One clear tradition which you will not be able to miss is the locals in their ’traje de flamenco’, and was a sight it is! The bright colours and beautiful smiles have the ability to brighten up anyones day. Feel free to join in on this tradition, find yourself and your partner or your children some flamenco clothes and make it a day of dress up!

While it can be fun to play dress up for the day, we understand that flamenco dress can be very expensive. So if you don’t feel up to dressing up it is also perfectly acceptable to attend in normal clothing too - the majority of people choose comfort over style and wear clothing more suitable for the rides and games. In other words, whether you choose to keep it casual or dress it up you will still have an excellent experience.

Food and Drink

There are may options for food and drinks at the Feria. From Tinto Verano to Mojitos, Paella to Tortilla, Buñuelos to Cotton Candy, there is surely something that will catch your interest. Fried fish is probably the most typical food to find at the Feria but if that isn’t your thing you’re sure to find something else that will spark your taste buds!

For adults we recommend trying Rebujito - this is the traditional alcoholic beverage of la Feria. A dry white sherry which is mixed with Sprite consumed in tiny glasses. Don’t underestimate the size of this drink, you could end up feeling a little worse for wear the next day!

Music

One of the most popular aspects of the Ferias is the music. They play a lot of Reggaeton and Spanish music, so get your dancing shoes on and practice your flamenco! A lot of children begin to learn flamenco at a young age so you will catch a few youngsters with moves better than yours, but don’t be discouraged! Join in!

Now you’re ready to hit the Feria! Below is the timetable for the Estepona Feria taking place this week. If you intend to go head to:
